There are still openings in Operation Bootstrap’s free college preparation programs

ADVANCED MANUFACTURING

This program is intensive and designed to prepare you for community college level work. Graduates of the program will be prepared for the North Shore Community College one-year Advanced Manufacturing Certification program.

ALLIED HEALTH CARE

This program uses the Health Care Learning Network on-line program and is designed to prepare you for college level work in Health Care Certification programs.

Both programs start soon and have a limited number of seats.

Volunteers Needed: College Mentoring

Girls Inc. of Lynn is in need of volunteer mentors! The Mentor program is run through the Teen Programs at Girls Inc and mentors will receive training, materials and resources to help their mentees through the college application process. Girls Inc. has run a successful college mentoring program for several years, last year we had 18 volunteer mentors and 30 girls in the program. Our goal is to be able to have a 1:1 ratio of girls to mentors.

Mentors are asked to commit to attending Wednesday evening meetings at the Girls Inc. of Lynn from 6-7:30pm from October to May. If interested, please contact Sahar Momand, College Access Fellow, at smomand@girlsinclynn.org or 781-592-9744 ext. 210.

CAEP Summer Program starts June 28th, 2010, and will be open Monday to Friday 7 AM to 3 PM at two locations:

North Shore Community College: Kids to College Program

  North Shore Community College is offering fun and engaging courses for kids 5 to 14.  This program allows children to dig in and explore arts and sciences in high energy, hands-on classes.  This is a great opportunity for children to discover and explore their creative side.  Let them problem-solve and unleash their imaginations.  Let them learn to love learning!  Classes are held Saturdays from February 6th through March 13th (no class February 13th) on the Danvers and Lynn Campuses.  North Shore's Youth Programs coordinator (Trish Walker) can be reached at 978-236-1232 or youthprograms@northshore.edu.

CAEP / Borders Book Fair

   

   Please support the CAEP / Borders Book Fair at Lynn English High School on September 24 & 25 from 8 am - 3pm and at Borders (located in Swampscott Mall) on September 26 from 10-5 pm.  Information regarding the College Application Education Project and helpful resources for those interested in attending college will be available.  On Saturday, September 26 high school students, parents, teachers, and guidance counselors are invited to come meet local authors Megan Kelley Hall and Deahn Berrini at Borders Express in the Swampscott Mall.  The authors will be signing books from 2 PM until 5 PM.  In addition to the author signing, the CAEP will be providing information and materials about their programs.  This sponsored event includes a 10% discount on all SAT and college preparation materials between 10 AM and 5 PM.

Need Money to Pay for College?

Is paying for college suddenly a BIG problem? Come to NSCC's Open House and learn more about what NCSS has to offer at the NSCC Lynn campus on Wednesday, November 19th, at 5:30 PM.
