Part of the Solution: Bring the Hoops Back Initiative
This past Saturday, October 18th, youth from Part of the Solution and community leaders from Essex County Community Organization (ECCO) led a petition signing to get basketball hoops in the Lynn community’s parks and recreations areas. Participants paired up to enlist the support of residential occupants and commercial occupants in the signing of the petition.
The replacement of the basketball hoops has been a hot topic in the Lynn area for the past year. Youth have been very diligent about gaining community support from neighboring agencies, and the community at large. In a span of three hours, youth acquired over one hundred signatures. In addition to the signatures collected at the Peace March and other events, the initiative has obtained a significant amount of community support. The larger goal of getting this petition signed is to present to City Counselors the importance of restoring the hoops at Ames Park and possibly other parks in the future.
To show your support, please send your contact information to Antonio Gutierrez at (617) 792- 3867 or Ryanne Filbey at 781-592-9744 ext. 210.

Part of the Solution Kick-Off!
Part of the Solution, Lynn CTC's youth council, recently had their kick-off meeting for the year. With over 60 youth and interested adults in attendance, we are off to a great start! POS is a youth council that cares about making Lynn a great place to live for their peers by providing substance free, safe alternatives in neighborhoods. Upcoming projects for the month of October include participating in the Highlands Coalition Peace March and rally on the 14th; cleaning up the Lynn Commons on the 25th; and working towards cleaning parks and getting basketball hoops put back up. The teens brainstormed about potential projects and are excited to be working in Lynn. The next POS meeting is on the 28th of October. All interested teens should join us at 112 Market St., second floor at 5 pm!
