Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest

The Community Minority Cultural Center encourages all youth to participate in their first annual Martin Luther King, Jr. essay contest. Please return your essay to Ryanne Filbey at rfilbey@socialcapitalinc.org or to Beth Wright at beth.wright@gordon.edu by Friday, December 5th.

Award winners will be notified by December 15th. All youth who submit an essay will have their names listed in the Holiday Observance Program Book. The top three essayists will each receive a $100 award which will be presented during the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Observance on January 19th.

YMCA Fall and Winter Programs

The Lynn YMCA invites everyone to join their upcoming fall and winter programs. A variety of programs will be offered like: Swim Lessons, Teen Fitness Night, Youth Open Gym, Shotokan Karate, Youth Basketball, Youth Excercise Club, YMCA's Winter Basketball League and many more. All ages welcome to participate in fun activities during winter months, additionally it is a great opportunity for the entire family to get involved and get fit.

Part of the Solution Park Clean Up Follow Up

On Saturday October 25th, the Lynn Police Department collaborated with the Part of the Solution (POS), youth council to clean up of the Lynn Commons. Youth, adults, and police came out to help beautify the area.

Part of the Solution is the youth advisory council to the Communities That Care Coalition (CTC). The council works to make Lynn a better place by identifying needs in the Lynn community and working to bring solutions and positive alternatives to their peers. Part of the Solution meets on the last Tuesday of every month at the Girls Inc. of Lynn at 112 Market St., 2nd Floor to discuss and plan community service events. Project Bread

For the past several months, Project Bread has continued to work with many local partners to increase participation in the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) in Lynn. Many parents do not know that their children can access free meals in different Lynn neighborhoods during the summer.

The Lynn SFSP operates at several locations, around lunch time, all summer long. Anyone under age 18 can receive a meal while school is out, no registration or identification is necessary, and many of the sites have fun activities as well! Upward Bound Student and Staff Openings

The Upward Bound Program at North Shore Community College is now accepting applications for new students. We serve first generation college-bound and modest income students. Current 8th and 9th graders attending Lynn schools are welcome to apply. For more eligibility information, please call the office at 781.477.2161.

Upward Bound also has part-time job openings for summer staff. Interested candidates must be 21 years of age or older, and have at least one year of college education.
