History

Social Capital Inc. (SCI) was founded in 2002 by David Crowley to build social capital and increase civic engagement in his hometown of Woburn, MA. After initial success in Woburn, SCI developed plans to expand to other local communities. At the beginning of 2004, SCI expanded to Dorchester as the second site. Conversations with a diverse array of stakeholders in Lynn led to the creation of SCI Lynn in 2006.

Today, SCI Lynn has partnerships with many organizations in Lynn and on the North Shore including Girls Inc. of Lynn, The Lynn Youth Health Alliance, and Revere on the Move. SCI AmeriCorps members have been serving at these sites since SCI Lynn's inception in order to increase volunteer capacity and youth engagement, and to build community awareness and investment on the North Shore.
